This is one of my Grandmother’s recipes. It’s so good :). Pound cake is great in so many ways… just plain, with icing, buttercream frosting, with a glaze, with fresh fruit or strawberries and whipped cream. It’s perfect for a Baked Alaska, which I will be posting next week :).
Bake it in loaf pans or a bundt or tube pan. ENJOY!!!
Directions:
Yield: One bundt cake
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add one of the eggs and blend together.
- Add the third cup of flour to the egg and sugar mixture and blend together.
- Add the vanilla extract and another egg. Blend together.
- Mix together the milk and water. Mix 1/2 of this liquid mixture and the final egg with the cake batter we’ve been making.
- In another bowl, mix together 2 cups of flour and baking powder. If you are using salted butter, omit the salt, otherwise add the salt and mix. Mix 1/2 of this dry mixture with the cake batter.
- Mix the remaining liquid ingredients until well blended.
- Mix the remaining dry ingredients until well blended.
- Lightly grease a bundt pan and dust with flour.
- Pour the cake batter into the bundt pan.
- Bake on the center rack at 350°F for 1 to 1 and 1/2 hours or until tooth pick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
- After it is baked, remove from the pan onto a cooling rack. After it has cooled completely, add any frosting or glaze that you like.
