This has to be my all time favorite cake. It’s rich buttery flavour is absolutely addictive. It’s a beautiful moist cake but dense enough to be used in any tiered cake. It’s an all time favorite for wedding cakes, birthday cakes or any special occasion or everyday cake. Give it a try…you’ll LOVE it.
Directions:
Yield: Two 8 or 9″ round or square layers (7 and 1/2 cups of batter)
- Spray pans with cooking spray and line bottoms with parchment paper.
- Preheat oven to 350 F.
- Cream butter & sugar in mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time and mix well after each addition.
- Mix in vanilla or almond extract.
- Add dry ingredients alternately with the milk. Starting with the dry and making three dry additions and two liquid additions.
- Pour into prepared pans and bake on center rack of preheated oven for 35 to 65 minutes or until cake is golden and springs back when lightly touched. A tooth pick inserted in the center should come out clean.
- Cool ten minutes in pans. Loosen sides with sharp knife and remove from pans.
- Cool completely on wire rack.
- Fill, frost and decorate as desired.

- 1 tsp of Vanilla or Almond Extract
- 3 cups of All-purpose Flour
- 3/4 tsp of Baking Powder
- 1/4 tsp of Salt (Omit, if using salted butter)

Hi Candra, can i know how to convert cup into grams? Like 1&1/2 cup of butter is how many grams? And 2 & 1/2 cup of caster sugar is how many gram? If i were to bake on 12″ pan & 4″ pan could u advise the recipe seperately for each pan?
Thanks 🙂
Hi Candra,
I finally made this cake.. it was good cake and dense as you said.. but is it supposed to be ( almost) as dense as pound cake? Mine didn’t rise as much as yours (the one on the video). Thanks in advance.
I have several cake recipes from scratch on here on my website. This one for Butter Cake…also I have recipes for quick and easy chocolate cake, Surprise Carrot cake, Fabulous Coffee cake and Royal Biscuit Cake.
Just look back through the older posts or type in the cake recipe you want to look at in the upper right hand corner, where it says “search”
Hope this helps!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to write 🙂
Hi Chandra,
Thank you for your reply.
Hi Novi,
Yes you can freeze this butter cake 🙂
You can freeze most baked goods. I will try to remember to mention in each video from now on whether or not it can be frozen.
Where you run into problems with freezing is with puddings, whipped Cream, etc. things that are cream based and thickened with flour.
Thanks for your lovely comments 🙂
Hi Candra,
Can I freeze this cake? How I do know whether baking / cooking can be frozen or not?
By the way.. I love your website. I have made whole wheat bread a few times now.. and always turned out great. Thank you for sharing your expertise. Thanks for the videos too.
